Dancing Girl

by Julia on December 4, 2011

As I write I have ‘The chorus of the Hebrew slaves’ by Verdi on repeat. I keep hearing it on the radio when driving. I love it so much that I bought ‘100 best Verdi’ from Amazon imagining it must be included, and thankfully it is!

I am then off to the gym to run some intervals. I feel safer being on the treadmill at the moment as I can control pace and my form more exactly.

My training is being geared to the rather short run up I have to run 10k next weekend in Majorca!  Now I can actually run again (funny knee off and off for 5 months now!) I want to ensure that I am at least a little prepared

I wish I was a little more technical and could actually work an iPod so that I could continue the Verdi Choruses experience whilst actually running, but mine seems to have just stopped working and as is my method with most things technical, I am letting it ‘rest’ hoping for a miraculous return to health . This has historically actually sometimes proved a good method!  But with this iPod it hasn’t happened yet!

It has however worked with my knee which now really does now seem willing to run again, and seeing the sun rise over the sea again as I ran along the seafront this week has been an exquisite joy. I am even relishing embracing winter as it arrives such is the relief to be let out of into the wildness of the sea crashing and the windswept downs again.

I have also discovered that my knee can take dancing, although there were odd moments on Wednesday evening when I wondered if I was asking too much of it at Barefoot doctors positive message concert. Barefoot doctor is a Personal power professional. He is a Taoist, a martial artist, a master of energy medicine and an author and musician who is into meditation, self empowerment and helping people.

It was a truly memorable evening. For the first hour Stephen gave us a talk about his journey as Barefoot doctor, how it all begun with his experience of hearing the sound of the universe as a very small boy, which he interpreted then as God talking. This was the start of a quest to let others know and experience what he had. He led us in sound healing practices. The effect was wonderful and resonated through all the people in the room, connecting and healing us and spreading out beyond and as far as we could imagine.

And then after a break Leakster and Barefoot played and sung and did their thing, which was brilliant.I loved the music and the lyrics which all contain powerful positive healing messages. The instant the music begun it ‘asked’ that we dance  with it (or that;s what it said to me anyway!) After the first song Leakster said ‘We do hope you will all be getting barefoot and dancing….’ that was my green light…

I love to dance – luckily I now keep my clothes on! Stories of me dancing naked in the moonlight in Rome in 1987, after a particularly satisfying half marathon, followed by an afternoon and evening of post race celebrations, travelled far and wide at the time …

Leakster and Barefoot were brilliant and the music wonderful and the organization and welcome by Julie and her team at Naked Dragon http://nakeddragon.co.uk/ was perfect – I had an amazing evening!

Stephen has also recently written a book called ‘The Message’ http://www.barefootmessage.com/which essentially communicates to us a positive vision for a new world where we do actually collaborate and co-operate with one another. It echoes my sentiments. We all have a responsibility for the part we play.

The more conscious we are of the effect we are having on one another and the planet, the more we will be willing to take that responsibility seriously and yet create together in ways that are uplifting and inspiring,

The music of Wednesday certainly did that. As I came down the stairs to leave the building someone said to me ‘Ah the dancing girl’ I drove home feeling energized and in love with life.

Hello Julie, it was me that called you ‘the dancing girl’ as we came down the stairs at the fabulous Naked Dragon event. You looked so happy and completely in the flow whilst Barefoot and Leakster were doing their thang! What a fantastic evening, so nice to see so many people enjoying the sponteneity and groove! Nice to meet you, albeit briefly, may we meet again on another dancefloor, Jacqui, xx
