Today Ange and I have woken up in Nairobi, a week since we were last here when we had our adventure ahead of us.
It feels like the last week could all be a dream – but then life is a dream, an illusion we create minute by minute. Is something good? Is something bad? It all depends on our perspective, on where we place ourselves in the event. Is it happening to us? Or do we create it?
Living from the inside out has the ability to empower us, from this position, whatever happens, we can choose the orientation of being conscious of the growth and the leaning within what we experience. We can learn from our reactions and choose our responses. How we experience each moment of our life is ultimately up to us.
Starting my days running barefoot on a beach in the sun is an illusion I definitely want to create more of! Running and writing – the solitude and the connection to nature and to source energy relaxes and releases my body, fuels my words and nourishes my soul.
I have discovered that even having spent time here where there are people living in ways that most people in the Western world would find untenable, I have been taught by the people and found I have been able to tap powerfully into the energy of this beautiful land and its people. I find I am able to understand more deeply, how to make a difference within myself and so out in the world.
Africa has inspired me. As I journey home later today I intend to take the growth of being here, being with Ange and all we have shared together, being with Chris www.hearourvoicekenya.com and being part of what he has created and being with the people.
Our day yesterday started on the beach, I ran and Ange chose to walk. She wanted to listen to the waves and the wind and enjoy the feeling of the sand beneath her feet, while I ran up and down the beach. I felt alive, loving every step – I will find it hard to put shoes on to run again!
Later, we were making our way to our car for our journey to Nairobi and with the prospect of a long journey ahead Ange was holding two bananas we intended to take with us. Three monkeys suddenly ran up and started chasing us! I suddenly realized that they were after the bananas! ‘Throw the bananas Ange’ – we had been running away and laughing and sure enough with bananas in their hands and not ours they left us alone!
We then made our journey here, which took us over ten hours, but passed in a moment. Planes and hills stretched either side of us, the little towns alive with activity and then Nairobi, huge and busy, cars everywhere. People were walking out in front of the road, very small children wandering through the traffic begging, the vultures sitting above us in the trees – darkness fell in a moment and we weren’t sure where we were going.
Our Angel appeared in the form of a taxi driver who happened to come level with us while we were in a huge line of traffic. We wound down our window and asked for his help – he directed us to our hotel.
